Presenting The First Annual Top Women In Welsh Technology

Following a public nomination process, judges chose women from across Wales and across sectors with the aim of sharing the stories of those breaking the mould to inspire others to follow their path:

Aimee Bateman, CEO and founder, Careercake.com - Careercake.com is an award-winning, online learning platform offering on-demand access, 24/7 to career and professional development. Developed by Aimee in 2010, it gives users the tools to take control of their own careers as well as the confidence to inspire others. Careercake's YouTube careers videos have received over 22 million hits. Aimee has spoken at Tedx, and recently signed a licencing deal with LinkedIn.

Dr Elin Haf Davies, CEO, aparito - Elin has close to twenty years’ experience working to develop new and emerging drug treatments for rare diseases in children. Based on her experience, and the need to improve the drug development pathway Elin co-founded aparito. A digital health company providing remote patient monitoring in real time.

Gemma Hallet, Founder, miFuture - miFuture is a better way of connecting Gen Z with Careers. An app that brings opportunities to the hands of young people where they can now find and apply for jobs, courses and volunteering in a swipe. Needing to solve the age-old careers problemm Gem made use of her redundancy pay out from teaching to self-fund the tech development. Following a successful pilot, she is now to taking her app nationwide with a clear mission of 'mobilising generation Z towards employability and prosperity'.

Kirsty Williams, co-founder, DashHound - A software engineer, Kirsty created an influencer tracking platform for beauty junkies to share, discover and shop beauty products. A data-science powered social commerce platform, DashHound makes it easy for users to shop the products recommended by their favourite influencers. SEPHORA, the global leader in prestige beauty retail, selected Kirsty to participate in the 2017 Sephora Accelerate Cohort, a programme supporting a growing community of female founders in all areas of the beauty industry, Kirsty was chosen from among hundreds of applicants across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Rachel Clacher, co-founder, Moneypenny - Moneypenny is passionate about harnessing the power of world class technologies and depending on the needs of their clients they either offer amazing people empowered by cutting edge technology or cutting edge technology supported by amazing people. They are passionate about Wales and feel lucky to be in such a fantastic location. Moneypenny is the world's leading outsourced communications provider, delivering telephone answering, live chat, switchboard and multichannel customer services. In the UK, Moneypenny has over 600 staff, a figure that is growing at a rapid rate and has offices in Charleston, USA. The company was founded by a brother and sister team in 2000 and currently handles over 13 million customer communications a year for 13,000 businesses.

Victoria Norman, CEO and Founder, Signum Health - Victoria has made waves in the MedTech world, winning the Best Application of Tech at the final of the ESTnet Wales Technology Awards. Signum Health uses artificial intelligence and cloud-based technology to deliver remote health care and support. Victoria secured a £400,000 in an equity co-investment led by the Development Bank of Wales, a econd round of investment the company has raised bringing the total funding for the digital start-up to £600,000.

Dr Debbie Garside, CEO GeoLang creator of the Ascema Platform for Data Loss Prevention - GeoLang's innovative DLP technology platform Ascema has been developed over the past five years by founder and current CEO, Dr. Debbie Garside, alongside the business' core engineering team. Recently acquired by the Shearwater Group, GeoLang also received early stage support through an Innovate UK collaboration project with Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Surrey, as well as Welsh Government’s Accelerated Growth Programme and Innovation Point as part of 2017’s Digital Dozen, and in 2015, was named as the UK's Most Innovative Small Cyber Security Company at InfoSec. Ascema's patented technology helps organisations protect sensitive information at the content level by discovering, classifying and remediating data across the corporate infrastructure via its ability to integrate with a range of authorised enterprise applications, both on premise and within the cloud.

Sarah Edwards, Managing Director, Capital Networks Solutions Limited - Sarah was appointed Managing Director of Capital Network Solutions in 2010 and has developed it to become a leading UK Cyber Security and IT Infrastructure solutions provider. Under her guidance CNS has become one of the UK’s largest Certification Bodies of the Government Cyber Essentials Standard with an experienced team of fully qualified penetration testers providing security services to major international companies. Sarah is particularly focussed on encouraging women into careers in the technology and Cyber Security sector and often mentors them through their early careers.

Lisa Matthews-Jones, Portfolio Manager, Arts Council of Wales - Lisa's work has focused on nurturing a thriving but sustainable arts sector including digital innovation, relationships with broadcasters, diversifying income and skills development. Recent initiatives that Lisa’s led on for Arts Council include Horizons/Gorwelion, a music development initiative with BBC Wales; Get Creative Festival, a national celebration of creativity with BBC and What Next?; Collectorplan, interest free loans to purchase works by living artists from Welsh galleries, Digital Innovation Fund for the Arts in Wales, in partnership with Nesta and working with Welsh Government to expand PRS Foundation’s Momentum music fund to Wales. Born and raised in Wrexham, Lisa started out in and is passionate about contemporary independent music, with previous roles including secondment as Director of Creative Economy at Cardiff University (and continues to work closely on culture in the Capital Region), Managing Director of music industry development agency Welsh Music Foundation and a Director of Cerdd Cymru: Music Wales. Lisa was a member of Nesta’s inaugural Y Lab digital innovators’ network.

Hannah Dee, Senior Lecturer, Abersytwyth University - Hannah is a true advocate of Women in tech and science, a Cognitive Science graduate with an MA in Philosophy and a Doctorate in Computing. She has held postdoctoral positions in Grenoble, Leeds, and Kingston upon Thames. She is also a women in computing activist, founding the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium, a national conference for women undergraduates in computer science, which has been running annually since 2008, moving around the UK. She has been on the committee of BCSWomen since 2007. She also helps run coding and robotics events for kids, including the award winning Aberystwyth Robotics Club and the PlayfulCoding project.
