Former YikYak CEO joins Cardiff Startup

Tyler Droll is the former CEO of Yik Yak, an app worth $400M after one year, which took young people by storm in 2014. Tyler is joining Cardiff Start-up Alpacr as a Non-Executive Director, to advise for the apps launch.

Alpacr (formally known as TrekinHerd) is a Cardiff-based social networking app creating a worldwide community around backpacking and outdoor adventuring, allowing users to easily meet others whilst travelling and sharing their experiences. The company was started by Cardiff University Economics graduate Dan Swygart in 2016, and has been growing from strength to strength ever since.

Last October, the company won the Virgin Media VOOM enterprise competition which raised £5k and lunch for Dan with Sir Richard Branson who took great interest in the app.

Since the beginning, the app has gained significant interest from companies such as Facebook, and investments from some of the most influential business people in South Wales such as; David Stevens (CEO Admiral), and Inspire Wales.

Alpacr has a core team including experienced tech developers, a highly credible CFO, and over 20 marketing interns from Cardiff University.

Tyler’s experience leading YikYak to international success and millions of active users adds an unprecedented value to the Welsh start up. The app already has a fast growing community of active users amongst Cardiff’s student population as well as in other areas in Europe and the United States.
