BeTheSpark in Action: Digital Festival ’18
This years’ Digital Festival was held at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff - a spectacular two-day event showcasing some of the top tech businesses within Wales as well as highly credible keynote speakers, workshops, round tables, pitch-offs, live product launches and plenty of opportunity to network with like-minded individuals.
Within the Digital Festival BeTheSpark had our very own bespoke zone focussing on entrepreneurship throughout Wales. During the two-day event we chose to showcase two themes: Financial and Entrepreneur Support throughout Wales and Mentoring and Pitching.
Our vision was to create a zone where people could come along and gain first hand advice from people and organisations across Wales who are supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurship. We welcomed guests from Princes Trust, NatWest Business, Development Bank of Wales, Business Wales and AberInnovation over the two-day event.
Entrepreneurs are at the heart of everything we do - that being said BeTheSpark chose to gift space within our zone to young, innovative tech businesses from across Wales to showcase their business. These entrepreneurs included:
TreckinHerd - TrekinHerd is an award winning social networking app, for backpackers and outdoor adventurers.
MiFuture – Mifuture is an app connecting Gen Z with career opportunities. They believe all young people deserve access to career options in a format that empowers and supports them in a digital age.
HutSix – Information security awareness training that protects your company through a measurable, bespoke, cloud-based campaign.
Signum Health - Signum Health a cloud-based MedTech platform that connects users directly to the specific health specialist or service they require, allow them to get help fast and remove the need for unnecessary GP appointments.
Gwedd Loudspeakers - A new adventure in hand made and sustainable sound: artisan loudspeakers for the future of music reproduction.
Ouro Solutions - Ouro Solutions is a software development company that does more. Aiming to provide products and services that change the way we do things, whether it's making something more efficient or something brand new.
Innovation Engine - The innovation engine uses a unique process to enable companies to accelerate the idea process and effortlessly bring new solutions to market.
We caught up with Managing Director of Hut Six Security, Simon Fraser to hear his thoughts on the event:
Hut Six were invited to exhibit within the BeTheSpark zone which put us front and centre at the Digital Festival with exhibiting space located at the main entrance capturing all footfall of attendees coming along to the event.
Competing in their live pitch-off event gave us great visibility and we received feedback from an experienced panel. It’s great to be part of the BeTheSpark movement representing entrepreneurship in Wales.
We met some excellent new potential customers and partners. It’s always fantastic to see how lively the Welsh tech scene can be.
