What's happening on the day?

Resilience – what does it mean to you? Literally it means the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and cope with adversity.

Entrepreneurs, business owners and managers are well used to making sure their firms can withstand challenges and bounce back from the bad times. But to do this those at the top need to foster resilience too – and they need to ensure their workforce is fit, happy and capable of dealing with the pressures and stresses of the job.

At our NatWest Boost Your Business event you’ll hear from those who have tackled adversity, started businesses, and survived challenging times in some of the largest ones.

Nick Elston will be sharing his story of how the biggest challenge he ever faced has brought him the most happy and exciting future possible. Based on his own experiences with Generalised Anxiety Disorder and dealing with anxiety in everyday life and business, Nick aims to leave his audience with tools and techniques you can implement immediately to boost resilience and success.

Helen Walbey is the founder and managing director of Recycle Scooters, the only female-owned and led motorcycle scrap yard in the UK. She went from facing bankruptcy after her husband suffered an injury at work, to trading parts internationally and having some major police salvage contracts.

She also sits on the Future Generation Commissioner's expert advisory group, chairs the Welsh Government Women in Enterprise taskforce and was recently appointed as the Federation of Small Business’ Policy Chair for Home Affairs. She has recently returned from representing Wales at the Global Solutions summit in Berlin, and sits on the global T20 think tank, developing gender equity policy recommendations for the G20. When she is not at work she digs holes in her garden with her rescue dog, and reads.

Helen will focus on overcoming setbacks in your business and personal life, and looking for and seizing opportunities to help your business grow.

And we’ll hear from Microsoft about how the pace of technological change and developments such as AI do not need to be as daunting as they may seem for SMEs – as well as hearing how the global company dealt with its own challenges in the face of organisational change.

The event will be opened by NatWest CEO Ross McEwan. We will also be joined by a host of partners and SMEs at a marketplace event, and there will be the chance to network.

Please note that this event is open to all - you do not need to be a NatWest customer to attend.

We look forward to seeing you there!
